Accessible by both car and boat, the Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge lies in the village of Sukau, a great base for explorations both along the river and nearby nature trails. Guests are accommodated in a collection of semi-detached stilted wooden chalets linked by a series of treetop walkways. The rooms themselves are simple in decor but nevertheless clean and very comfortable with hot showers, ceiling fans and ensuite bathrooms. The main lodge has a lovely river-facing restaurant and sun deck, as well as a library and TV room where you can enjoy documentaries on Sabah’s wildlife.

From nature walks through the tangled jungle to safaris on the calm waters of the Kinabatangan River, there’s plenty of opportunities to encounter the region’s rare creatures.
