Essential sights include the 2,000-metre high Saiq Plateau at Jebel Akhdar, the ancient oasis city of Nizwa (with its famous livestock market) and the golden dunes of the Wahiba Sands where you can sleep beneath the stars in luxurious, Bedouin-style tents.
