Launched in 2003, the Hiram Bingham is a luxurious Belmond Train that escorts its guests high into the Andes of Peru, travelling from the Inca capital of Cusco to the infamous Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu. Named after the American explorer, Hiram Bingham, who re-discovered the site of Machu Picchu, the train promises a lively ambiance, sensational cuisine and a rail adventure through Peru like no other.

When you step aboard the authentic Pullman-style carriages, you will be transported back in time. The décor of wood-panelled interiors and brass finishes evoke the classic 1920’s parlour cars, yet with a twist, as the Hiram Bingham is infused with a distinctly lavish Peruvian soul. As you make your way to the heart of the Inca Empire, you will be surrounded by the exquisite views of the soaring mountains between Cusco and Machu Picchu.

Before you step aboard, you will have the chance to explore Cusco and its centuries-old Spanish colonial architecture and Inca history. In the early light of the next morning, you will embark on your luxury train journey up towards to the legendary site of Machu Picchu with a welcome cocktail, brunch and a gourmet lunch whilst being immersed in the awe-inspiring Peruvian scenery. Aside from putting in place all the major details of a complex trip to Japan, Dan at TUTC nailed every detail: train tickets were for seats with large luggage space (very important in Japan, as we discovered); a mobile internet wifi was included; together with a pre-charged use-pretty-much-anywhere travel card (again, important – Japan has multiple transport companies).
